Description: Informatic PowerCenter is an Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) utility used to build enterprise data warehouses. This technology allows users to extract data from multiple sources, transform the data according to business logic developed in the client application, and load the transformed data into a file and relational targets. Also, it provides the ability to view and analyze business information and browse and analyze metadata from disparate metadata repositories.

This product has three editions: Standard, Advanced, and Premium. Each edition shares the same core functionality. The Advanced edition includes additional features not available in the Standard edition such as metadata management and a real time engine. While the Premium edition is fully-featured and includes proactive monitoring and data validation testing. The scope of this entry is for all three editions.

The TRM decisions in this entry only apply to technologies and versions owned, operated, managed, patched, and version-controlled by VA. This includes technologies deployed as software installations on VMs within VA-controlled cloud environments (e.g. VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)). Cloud services provided by the VAEC, which are listed in the VAEC Service Catalog, and those controlled and managed by an external Cloud Service Provider (i.e. SaaS) are not in the purview of the TRM. For more information on the use of cloud services and cloud-based products within VA, including VA private clouds, please see the Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office (ECSO) Portal at: https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/sites/OITECSO

Informatica PowerCenter supports connections to Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, Oracle, and DB2 databases. The database is used to manage instructions required to extract, transform, and load data as well as store administrative information such as permissions and privileges. Informatica PowerCenter applications access the database repository through the PowerCenter Repository Service process, which retrieves, inserts, and updates metadata in the repository database tables. Additionally, this product has the option to be hosted in cloud server environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure.
