Description: Responder 5000 is a mobile and desktop nurse call system that consists of nurse call devices and servers. The nurse call devices provide the life-safety functionality of the system. The software running on the servers adds additional functionality, including an activity-board that displays open calls and a reports package, which can be used to generate a set of pre-programmed reports to help identify strengths and weaknesses in clinical workflow processes.

This technology includes a web-based application that is locally hosted on VA premises and accessed internally via VA client machines. The web-based application stores sensitive data in a Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server database. The data stored is manually entered by clinical staff and is not obtained via an automated mechanism. The data is not encrypted in the database.

This entry covers the Desktop Edition of this technology and not any mobile versions. Please note that the implementation of mobile technology applications that operate on Mobile Operating Systems must be reviewed and approved by the Mobile Technology and Endpoint Security Engineering Team: https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/sites/OITMT/SitePages/MTHome.aspx
