Description: Structured Query Language (SQL) Monitor is a web application (hosted on VA premises) that monitors SQL Servers. SQL Monitor displays real-time data about the current performance of all host machines, SQL Server instances, and databases that the user monitors, and raises alerts when problems occur.

This software uses Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) as the default Web Server and can run on a virtual machine. SQL Monitor requires Microsoft SQL Server database (also called the SQL Monitor Data Repository) to store monitoring data, alert information, and configuration settings. SQL Monitor collects information from both the Host Machine and Microsoft SQL Server instances. Data is collected from the user`s monitored servers by using ping, remote registry (PerfMon and registry access), Windows Management Instrument (WMI), remote file access, and Microsoft SQL server. The vendor asserts that no sensitive information is logged in the log files created by the monitoring service or web server. Communication between the monitoring service and the web server is encrypted with a self-signed certificate.

The TRM decisions in this entry only apply to technologies and versions owned, operated, managed, patched, and version-controlled by VA. This includes technologies deployed as software installations on VMs within VA-controlled cloud environments (e.g., VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)). Cloud services provided by the VAEC, which are listed in the VAEC Service Catalog, and those controlled and managed by an external Cloud Service Provider (i.e., SaaS) are not in the purview of the TRM. For more information on the use of cloud services and cloud-based products within VA, including VA private clouds, please see the Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office (ECSO) Portal at: https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/sites/OITECSO
