Description: ModelTalker is speech synthesis software that is specifically designed to benefit people who are losing or who have already lost their ability to speak. This technology may benefit those with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Dysarthria, or those with other speech disorders. The software allows people to use a synthetic version of their own voice or a voice best suited to represent their own voice. Voices can be built from recordings by potential/current Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device users, the friends or family of an AAC device user, or clinicians and researchers. Data is stored within a proprietary database.

The software requires a good quality consumer grade or better head-mounted microphone to record the voice.

Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
Section 508 Information: This technology has been assessed by the Section 508 Office and found non-conformant.
